At Scouts last night we finally got to go out on a walk around Haworth and Pensitone Country Park to see the Bradford City of Culture art installations that we had planned in June, but sadly werent able to do owing to the leaders all getting injured and not being able to walk!
In true Ninth fashion the weather took its vengeance for our lateness on the walk, and we were treated to a proper demonstration of Yorkshires moorland weather!! ☔☔☔
The reason for the walk was two fold, one to see the art and finish off that part of our Bradford City of Culture badge, and secondly was to use the equipment very kindly loaned to us by West Yorkshire Bat Group to see if we could find some bats! Sadly, I don’t think the Ninth is a suitable scout group for bats to join, as they dont like the rain!! However, with the brief break in the rain showers as we approached the pond and the butterfly art, we were treated to a handful of Pippistrelle and Noctule bats who came out to make us feel a bit better about our wet and soggy trousers!!
Sadly not many photos, I was so wet I couldn’t make my phone work, and the looming darkness made the few occasions I did manage to make it work meant rubbish photos! Luckily Dave was better prepared than I was and he managed to get a few. I’ve also put some pics of the equipment we were using below, and a recording from the last time we used it all so you can hear the bats making their echo location calls!
Despite the rain the Bats were a big hit, and the scouts have asked that we do it again at some point soon… (just without the rain this time!!!😂)
