Capture the adventure.
Share the story.
We’re on the lookout for real moments that show what Scouting in Bradford North is all about – fun, challenge, friendship, and growth.
Each month, we’re inviting groups/members to send in their best photos. Whether it’s a laugh on camp, a muddy hike, or a quiet moment by the fire, your photo could be our Photo of the Month – and part of something bigger.
Photo taken on St. Georges day 2024, picturing connection and joy in Scouting at Blackhills Scout Campsite.

This month’s entries
Entries from the current month will be displayed here.
How it works:
- Submit a photo from a recent Scout activity
- We’ll pick one standout photo each month
- The winner gets featured and celebrated across Bradford North
- All entries will be considered for our district photo bank
What We’re Looking For
We want authentic moments that reflect the spirit of Scouting. Think:
– Teamwork and leadership in action
– Big grins and muddy boots
– Friendship, connection and inclusion
– Campfires, challenges, and community
– Anything that says: “This is what Scouting looks like.”
Tip: It doesn’t need to be a perfect shot — we love real, unfiltered stories.
What You’ll Win
Each monthly winner will receive:
– A feature on our website, social media, and news page
– A digital certificate sent to your group email
– An entry into the Photo of the Year competition
– Recognition at our District Volunteers Meeting
Submitting your Photo
1. Choose a great photo taken at a Scout activity
2. Make sure you have permission from everyone in the photo
3. Fill out the submission form and upload your photo
4. Tick the box if you’re happy for it to be added to our district photo library
Photo Bank & Checkbox Consent
All Photo of the Month entries will also be considered for our Bradford North Photo Bank – a collection of great photos we can use to promote Scouting across:
– Social media
– Newsletters
– Posters and flyers (and other methods of advertising)
– District resources and presentations
You’ll see a checkbox on the form asking if you’re happy for your photo to be included.
Leave it unticked if you’d rather your photo was only used for the monthly contest (social media post, news post on website and certificate).
Safeguarding & Permissions
We take safeguarding seriously. Before submitting a photo:
– Ensure everyone pictured has consented (including parents/carers for under 18s)
– Do not submit photos of anyone who has opted out of media use
– Avoid images with names, uniforms (other than scouting uniforms), or visible logos that would show identifiable information to the young person
– Volunteers should confirm group photo permissions through your local group’s consent records or with the individuals involved
We’ll only use photos that follow Scouts UK safeguarding guidelines. We also have information on keeping young people safe. When in doubt, check with your Team Leader or Group Lead Volunteer.
What to do if consent is Withdrawn
We understand that sometimes consent can change — and that’s okay.
If a photo has already been submitted or published and consent is later withdrawn, here’s what will happen
– Contact our Media & Communications Team as soon as possible
– We will remove the photo from all platforms — including social media, our website, and any planned materials
– If the withdrawn photo was a monthly winner, a new winner will be selected to take its place
We’ll always act quickly, respectfully, and in line with our safeguarding commitment to young people and volunteers.
DISCLAIMER: While we will act quickly to remove any photo if consent is withdrawn, it’s important to understand that full removal from the internet is not always possible. Once an image has been shared online, it may have already been seen, saved, or reposted by others. Even after we delete it from our platforms, copies may still exist elsewhere — such as in social media caches, private downloads, or third-party websites. We will always do our best to limit further use, but we cannot guarantee that an image can be completely erased from all online spaces. This is why obtaining clear consent before submitting a photo is so important.
Photos to avoid
Even with consent, it’s best to avoid photos showing:
– Individuals alone and isolated without context
– Young people in swimwear or sleeping
– Anyone visibly upset, injured, or in distress
– Bathroom/changing tent areas (even if from a distance)
– Sensitive medical needs of a young person or adult present i.e., a young persons/adults medication
Instead, Aim for:
– Photos that showcase adventure without putting anyone at risk
– Active, joyful, purposeful moments
– Connection and community
– Group teamwork, problem-solving, and skills in action
You can blur or block out individuals but please note this may harm the aesthetics of the photo. If you want to avoid this think about different angles or positions you can take the photo from – wide angle shots or over the shoulder shots may work to your favour!
