Let’s keep moving forward together
Now that Compass – the old volunteer system – has been retired, Scouts UK is working on a brand new membership system to help make things easier, quicker, and more joined-up for everyone.
This page links to key information on the Scout UK and district website. If you need a hand with anything Scouting, take a look at the learning tools or speak with your fellow volunteers. We’re all here to support each other – every step of the way.
FAQ – Digital System
Why can’t I access the new digital system through my browser?
The digital system is designed to work on modern, up-to-date browsers. Specifically:
– Google Chrome
– Mozilla Firefox
– Safari
– Microsoft Edge
Any other browsers, including any newer browsers are not currently supported by the digital system and may potentially in the future.
Tip: If you run into issues consider the following:
– Clear your browser cache, cookies and history.
– Try private/incognito mode
– Or switch to a different supported browser.
Why do I need to check my safety learning?
Most volunteers will need to update their safety learning by 14 July 2025. If training has not been completed, it could cause your account and your role to be suspended. Staying on top of safeguarding isn’t just a requirement – it’s a part of the Scout promise we make to young people and their families to keep them safe at all times. For more information on how to update your learning head over to Scout UK’s Safety Learning Support page.
Volunteers must complete their Safeguarding (and Safety) training within 30 days of being added to Scout UK’s membership system – whether you’re brand new or updating your registration. After the initial training, the Safeguarding module must be renewed every three years to stay compliant.
Why this matters
1. Keeping young people safe
Safeguarding training gives you the tools to identify potential abuse or risks. It ensures you know how to respond properly, without dely.
2. Meeting legal and Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) requirements
As a regulated activity provider, Scouts UK must enforce that all volunteers working with young people complete this training promptly and keep it up to date.
3. Protecting yourself and the District
Completing and keeping your training current shields you, your fellow leaders, and the District. If learning lapses past expiry, the system or your District team may put your role on hold until training is updated.
How to check your safety and other essential learning
To check your due dates or start your training, log in to My Learning via scouts.org.uk. You’ll receive reminders – please ask another volunteer is you are struggling.
